And what about the "VIP Club"-Surely a misnomer?

They only started it a few weeks ago.

With regards to Big L expecting privileged listeners to be the mouthpiece of the station, that wasn't the case. BLBM wasn't given permission to tell everyone that 1395 was going off the air, he just got a bit 'over zealous'. It's my belief (and only my belief) that Big L weren't going to close 1395 today. I believe they only did it because it suddenly became public knowledge.''

I am not a privileged listener nor would I want to be, I have never phoned Mike Read or anybody else at the station.

All I am saying is Big L should issue statements themselves not rely on word of mouth from listeners, as look at what has happened

It used to be the mast with the most

Chirpy Mike Read and Adrian John did say this very thing a few months ago, didn't they?

Far better for the station to be honest with it's listeners and advertisers than to just tell certain privileged listeners and expect them to be the mouth piece of the station.

Captain266,

I'd class you as a 'privileged listener', you email Mike nearly every day; why don't you ring him up and ask him yourself?

Sorry Chirpy, you and BLBM probably know more than most of us, but the way I see it, spilt beans or not, you don't switch the majority of your audience off (and presumably advertising income) with next to no warning unless there is absolutely on alternative. There has to be more to it.

I don’t get that – why would they switch-off 1395 with just a few minutes notice because it had become ‘public knowledge’ on the internet that it was the ‘longer term plan’, so improvements could be made?

And what about the other 99% of listeners and the advertisers that don’t read this and other boards?

Sorry, that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, especially when those on here, unlike most listeners, know they have money problems. Crying or Very sad

To blame BLBM is out of order I think. Sad

There's a different between 'what you are told' and 'what you know' IMHO.

Steve G was no doubt told he was going to get paid, but it was clear from his show yesterday it became known to him that wasn't the case. Crying or Very sad

I'd consider anyone who gets (most of) their requests played, to be a privileged listener captain266.

I only know because I phoned the station to ask a question and my question was answered. Unlike BLBM though, I kept it to myself and left it to Mike to make the announcement.

Perhaps the logistics was beyond their control...but on saying that an announcement could be put on the website....it does seem bad timing after all the publicity in the Express...as I say perhaps this was beyond their control Confused Confused

Ah well, there ya go! It wouldn't be the first time I've been out of order. Laughing

Anyway, I'm off now, all this explaining between the two forums is getting rather tedious. I was meant to be getting to grips with some new radio automation software for my new 'Vista' based laptop. I've got a gig to do tomorrow.
I'm sure the rest of you will be able to sort out the world and his wife's problems. While you're at it you might like to ask Roger for my moderator's job, I'm getting just a little bit tired of it.

Farewell...

We are all very sad the frequency has closed down-and its no good taking it out on each other.

For one reason or another- the AM broadcast can no longer be sustained.

Even if Big L HAD kept each and every one of us informed-it wouldn,t have made any difference to where we are now-

Its a very sad day- and we can all only speculate on the future.

I guess they kept it going as long as humanly possible.................. and now its impossible!

Sadly for all the wrong reasons. Crying or Very sad

Whatever the problems - this whole situation could have been handled so much better. Crying or Very sad

I only listen online, so AM isn't important to me, but I am concerned about the future of my fav station. Crying or Very sad
